Cheryl Berman earned her Bachelors Degree in Philosophy and Jewish Studies from Stern College for Women. She then went on to earn her Masters Degree in Medieval Jewish Philosophy from Bernard Revel Graduate School, Yeshiva University. She has taught Jewish Philosophy in various institutions and she now works as a freelance writer from her home in Bet Shemesh, Israel.
Cheryl wrote Reasonable Doubts with the intention of starting a conversation that she believes should have taken place years ago. Cheryl found little comfort in the popular Jewish texts about faith when she was going through her crisis of faith. This lack of appropriate Jewish literature is what inspired Cheryl to write about her faith crisis and to expound on the philosophical texts that helped to reintroduce her to God. She often describes the loneliness involved in a faith crisis, and she made the decision to write this book as an auto-biography. The intent is to embrace the reader by assuring him or her that she has gone through the same heart-wrenching experience and, unlike so many others, she is not judging anyone.
Cheryl intends this book to be perceived as a discussion rather than a lecture. She invites her readers to laugh, cry, yell, hug, or even kick her book across the room – just to respond and open a dialogue. Faith is a process, and it often needs to be talked out.
